"Evidence-based Public Health: An Introduction to Chronic Disease Prevention", een presentatie over waarom economische evaluatie nodig is, wat de verschillende vormen van economische evaluatie zijn en wanneer het nuttig is te evalueren, met chronische aandoeningen als voorbeelden.

Dr. van den Broek-Altenburg is an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Vice-Chair of Population Health Science at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She holds a PhD in Health Services Research (cognates in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Economics) (2018), MSc in Public Health (2014), and MA in Political Science (2003).

Her research focuses on analyzing and predicting human decision-making in health. She uses advanced choice modeling methods to analyze patient and provider preferences in terms of their evaluation of alternative options and trade-offs. She recently received a grant to further explore non-compensatory decision-making in healthcare and she is particularly interested in developing models that better capture individual preference heterogeneity and previously unobserved factors that have an effect on preferences for treatment options. She has been developing patient-centered value assessment methods to inform value-based care incentives.

Dr. van den Broek-Altenburg also evaluates the clinical and economic effects of healthcare interventions. She leads clinical and economic evaluations in Vermont, using EHR, claims, and text data. For the past decade and a half, Dr. van den Broek-Altenburg has collaborated with policymakers, clinicians, and researchers to develop standardized quantitative measures to compare health systems and assess health system performance. She also leads efforts to improve the data infrastructure facilitating structural health system evaluation.

Since the global outbreak of COVID-19, Dr. van den Broek-Altenburg has contributed to a number of population health studies, including one identifying factors that may increase or decrease the risk of infection, and international studies analyzing COVID-19 vaccine preferences and the impact of the crisis on individuals, both in health, financial and psychological terms.

In 2005, Dr. van den Broek-Altenburg founded a health policy think tank in The Hague and served as its director until 2012. She has also worked as a health policy fellow with several research institutes in Europe and the US and she was a health policy adviser in the Dutch and European Parliaments. She contributed to the public debate by publishing scholarly papers and op-eds and was frequently seen in the media. In 2012, she went back to academia and has since won several awards and grants for her research.
