Dr. Lorena Montes is a recognized Cardiovascular Surgeon and the Medical Leader of the Center of Excellence for Myocardial Revascularization at Hospital Internacional de Colombia in Bucaramanga. She did her specialty in Cardiovascular Surgery at Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid, trained in mechanical Circulatory support in Germany, has a master's in interventions on the aortic valve from the University of Zurich and a fellowship on OPCAB minimally invasive coronary surgery from the European Society of Cardiothoracic surgery.
She holds leadership positions at The Colombian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, LACES (Latin American Association of Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery), WTS (Women in Thoracic Surgery), and CTSNet where she is a cardiac editor senior. She is especially active in her areas of expertise and research: Complex Coronary Surgery, Mechanical Circulatory Support as well as Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity, being currently the Chair of the Women in Cardiac Surgery Committee at LACES and the Co-chair of International Affairs at WTS. She is also president-elected (2026-2028) for LACES.
