DESCRIPTION: \n \nEnhancing Workplace Learning in Clinical Settings\nFoster
ing Learning-Rich Clinical Environments: A Week of Collaborative Intervent
ions to Advance Workplace Learning\nThis proposal outlines a week-long ini
tiative comprising interactive workshops and participant observations desi
gned to strengthen workplace learning in clinical settings. The program is
aimed at clinical educators\, undergraduate students\, residents\, and in
terprofessional team members who contribute to shaping the hospital’s educ
ational culture. Grounded in evidence-informed strategies from health prof
 essions education\, the initiative promotes collaborative\, reflective\, a
 nd context-sensitive learning approaches.\nLearning Goals\n\nDevelop a sha
red understanding of workplace learning as a dynamic\, participatory\, and
socially embedded process\, particularly from the perspective of faculty
and clinical supervisors. \nExamine and strengthen supervisory practices b
y exploring how guidance\, observation\, and structured reflection can be
designed to maximize learning affordances for trainees. \nCritically refle
ct on power\, identity\, and hierarchy by engaging mixed groups of faculty
\, residents\, and students in dialogue about psychological safety\, inclu
sion\, and exclusion in the clinical workplace.\nIdentify and document bar
riers and enablers of psychological safety across different levels of the
hospital community\, creating a collective foundation for institutional im
provement.\nObserve and interpret local workplace learning practices to un
cover hidden challenges and untapped opportunities for interprofessional c
 ollaboration and inclusive education.\nCo-create actionable\, context-sens
itive strategies through collective synthesis of workshop outputs and obse
rvation insights\, fostering feasible and sustainable improvements in the
hospital’s learning culture.\n\nStructure\nThe program is structured as a
progressive and cumulative learning experience across five days. Workshops
on Days 1–4 are offered to different audiences to ensure broad participat
ion across the hospital\, while Day 5 integrates all insights through part
icipant observation and collaborative action planning.\nSchedule - Week of
  Workplace Learning Interventions\n \n[toggle open='true' title='Day 1: Un
 derstanding Workplace Learning'] \n\n\n\nWorkshop: \nDesigning Effective L
earning Spaces (Faculty &amp\; Clinical Supervisors – Group 1)\n\n\n\n\n
\nThis interactive workshop engages faculty and clinical supervisors in an
alyzing mechanisms of participatory learning and identifying learning affo
rdances across roles. Emphasis is placed on balancing individualized learn
ing needs with collective performance standards and on fostering adaptable
 \, inclusive\, interprofessional environments.\n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes:\n
\n\n\nAnalyze core mechanisms of participatory learning in clinical settin
gs.\nRecognize the educational contributions of diverse professional roles
.\nBalance individualized learning trajectories with shared curricular goa
 ls.\nDraft initial\, context-sensitive strategies for enhancing clinical l
 earning environments.\n\n\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' title='Day
  2: (Un)Safety in Learning Relationships'] \n\n\n\nWorkshop:\nReflecting o
 n (Un)Safety in Workplace-Based Learning (Mixed Group – Faculty/Residents/
Students\, Group 1)\n\n\n\n\n \nUsing the Rich Pictures method\, mixed gro
ups of faculty\, supervisors\, residents\, and students reflect on their e
xperiences of psychological safety and its absence in clinical learning. T
hrough dialogue\, participants surface how hierarchies\, identity\, and cu
ltural norms shape inclusion and exclusion.\n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes:\n\n•
Reflect critically on how power and identity shape learning relationships
.• Use Rich Pictures to unpack experiences of (un)safety.• Identify and do
cument barriers and enablers of psychological safety to inform institution
 al improvement efforts.\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' title='Day 3
: Understanding Workplace Learning (Repeat Session)'] \n\n\n\nWorkshop:\nD
esigning Effective Learning Spaces (Faculty &amp\; Clinical Supervisors –
Group 2)\n\n\n\n\n \nA second run of the Day 1 workshop\, engaging additio
nal faculty and supervisors to ensure wide coverage across departments. Pa
rticipants generate strategies for strengthening the learning environment
from the supervisory perspective.\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' ti

 \nWorkshop:\nReflecting on (Un)Safety in Workplace-Based Learning (Mixed G
 roup – Faculty/Residents/Students\, Group 2)\n\n\n\n\n \n A second run of
the Day 2 workshop\, engaging a different set of mixed participants. Addit
ional barriers and enablers of psychological safety are identified and add
ed to the collective “Safety Map.”\n\n\n\n[/toggle]\n[toggle open='true' t
itle='Day 5: Observing Clinical Learning Environments – From Insight to Ac
 tion'] \n\n\n\n \nReflecting on (Un)Safety in Workplace-Based Learning (Mi
 xed Group – Faculty/Residents/Students\, Group 2)\n\n\n\n\nMorning: \nStru
ctured Participant Observations\n\n\n \nMixed teams of faculty\, residents
\, and students conduct structured observations of clinical placements. Ob
servers focus on psychological safety and the educational affordances of d
 aily practice.\n\n\nAfternoon:\nCollaborative Action Planning\n\n\n \nAll
stakeholders convene to synthesize outputs generated during the week:• Pro
totype strategies from the Understanding Workplace Learning workshops (Day
s 1 &amp\; 3).• Barriers and enablers identified in the (Un)Safety in Lear
ning Relationships workshops (Days 2 &amp\; 4).• Insights from structured
clinical observations (Day 5 morning).\n\n\n \nThrough collaborative metho
ds\, participants align on a shared understanding of the hospital’s learni
ng culture\, prioritize challenges and opportunities\, and co-create feasi
ble\, sustainable action plans for educational improvement.\n\n\n\nLearnin
g Outcomes:\n\n• Align a shared vision of the hospital’s learning culture
across stakeholder groups.• Prioritize the most pressing challenges and op
 portunities for workplace learning.• Co-create feasible\, context-sensitiv
e\, and sustainable strategies for educational improvement.\n\n\n\n[/toggl
