It is time to finally give extra attention to the generations of strong Caribbean women - grandmothers, mothers & ambitious girls - who keep this society at its feet.
For years, it's known that men and women differ physically, emotionally, and mentally. For medical professionals, however, it is important to recognize that males and females are not interchangeable in the way we approach and treat both genders. Symptoms can present in different ways, medicines do not always work the same, and side effects can present differently in men and women, to name a few examples.
Furthermore, there are illnesses that only affect women, such as gynecological cancers. Hormonal balances have a big impact on our overall well-being, and those balances change a lot over the course of a woman’s life span. Menopause has a very big effect on the well-being and functioning of women. This has been under-acknowledged until recently. Thus, it’s time to ensure that our medical professionals are equipped to address and safely treat these peri-menopausal symptoms, re-strengthening the women that have carried our society for so long.
What about the way women experience psychological stress or trauma and how do they deal with sexuality and their (gender)role in this society?
There are so many interesting topics in women’s health that deserve attention. That is why we have organized a conference entirely focused on women. We will address a variety of illnesses, symptoms, hormonal changes, psychological & sexual subjects over the generations, from girls to grandmothers.
With topics like these, we are confident that this will be an inspiring and fruitful conference on women’s health. Join us at the American University of Medicine (AUC) on the 13th and 14th of June 2025.
