DESCRIPTION: \n Quality Assurance in the Caribbean Health Care Context: The
  role and value of health care accreditation systems.\nThis symposium\, wh
 ich will be held on June 20 and 21\, focuses on the processes\, benefits\,
  and challenges of a quality system\, particularly in the Caribbean part o
 f the Kingdom. Does (the pursuit of) accreditation lead to a better qualit
 y of care on the islands? Are the existing and most commonly used accredit
 ation systems\, such as JC\,I also suitable for us or do we need a differe
 nt approach given our circumstances and needs?The various presentations wi
 ll address the local Caribbean Dutch definitions of quality and how these 
 are assessed. In addition to the more technical substantive section\, the 
 multiple speakers will pay attention to the importance and type of leaders
 hip required for a successful accreditation process and quality system.In 
 an interactive setting\, two important panel discussions will occur with m
 anaging healthcare institutions in Curaçao\, Aruba\, Sint Maarten\, and Bo
 naire. Both the cure and care sectors will be discussed. From these panel 
 discussions and the island presentations\, the organizers will distill the
  most important points of attention for an optimal introduction and use of
  accreditation systems to improve and maintain the quality of care at the 
 end of the symposium. The Public Health Inspectorates of both Aruba and Cu
 raçao will also explain their role and findings within this quality proces
 s.For a broader perspective\, two keynote speakers will discuss their expe
 riences with quality accreditation systems in the Netherlands and Colombia
